Now I'm listening to the audiobook, and Harry got the memories as he died and put them into a Pensieve. Am I mistaken or are there two different versions? Did anyone read the British version?
That's the one I read and I swear he said "look into my eyes. Thanks everyone! I guess it has just been so long since I read it, and I did read it superfast, so i just remembered it wrong.
I read the British one and I too am sure that Harry looked into Snape's eyes - I remember nothing about a pensieve So I guess that means that you're not listening to the Stephen Fry audiobook? Because I always thought he read the British version Forget that - I just checked my copy of DH and the pensieve thing does happen. But you are right about the eyes thing - but I think that was because Snape wanted the last thing he saw before he died to be Lily's eyes.
Sorry for giving you the wrong information, but I was confused the same as you were.
I guess I just read DH a bit too fast in order to get to the end! Or maybe my eyes were just ful up with tears at that point, I don't remember. No, it is the same, Harry gets Snape's memories, which include his love for Lily. The passage states that Snape pulls memories out on his wand and Harry puts them into a vial that Hermione gives to him.
Getting the British Harry Potter eBooks and Audiobooks
Harry understands this after looking at the memories in the Penseive. I don' t know about the British version of the book and have never heard of such a thing but it may well be possible.

Don't feel badly about misreading one detail. I read the book straight through stopping only once to eat and misread the scene at the end between Molly Weasley and Bellatrix. That's what being really, really tired will do to you.
In the book when he died, Hermione conjured a flask to catch the stuff that was coming out of his eyes and nose and ears. If your like me and read through it as quick as you could the first time its easy to miss these things. My recollection is that he got them as the silvery substance that you put into a pensive.
